I'm watching the Maersk Alabama putting into port in Kenya, and I'm wondering how long it'll be until we get a movie, either TV or otherwise, about how the crew retook the ship.
I guess it'll have a lot to do with the outcome of the captain being held hostage :(
I'm also sitting here wondering why the hell aren't these crews going through high-risk areas armed???

Date: 2009-04-12 05:29 am (UTC)Well, according to one of the FNC guests, it depends on the company. Some shipping companies do arm their employees, but wasn't this ship Dutch-owned? Maybe that has something to do with it.
It's insane, though, considering how much piracy has gone up in the last few years. And now that the US has shown there are no real consequences for attacking our flagged ships (WTF is the FBI doing out there?) I think every American who goes out there should make sure he or she is armed.
