I have some questions about Coup d'Etat for anyone who's seen it... or, I suppose, even if you haven't, if you don't mind spoilers.

Was Cowen kidnapping people with the ATA gene because he needed them to be able to fly the jumpers he thought he was getting? Or because he knew they were important to the expedition and therefore would make better hostages? Does this indicate that there aren't people - natives of the Pegasus Galaxy - who have the gene themselves? I've been kind of working under the assumption that people who are descended from the original Ancients were going to have/more likely to have the gene, and since the Ancients had a presence in both galaxies, there would be humans in both galaxies with the gene. Is this inconsistant with what we've been shown on the show?

Unrelated, but... I'm listening to a song right now called Ships That Don't Come In... the song itself is pretty sad, but the title is making me think evil things wrt SGA... ;)

This is my own speculation/understanding, so take it with the bucket of salt I offer. *hands over bucket*

Cowen was taking those with the ATA because none of the Genii had it (all that radiation poisoning may have mucked them up on that front on top of all the other problems they have) and they needed peeps who had it to allow Laden to synthesize the gene to inject the "healthy" Genii. Then they'd have Genii who could use Ancient tech. I think his reasoning for getting the Atlanteans was because he knew they had the jumpers on top of having peeps with the gene, and he most likely figured they'd be gullible enough to fall for the "let's be friends" bit, while others from the Pegasus galaxy would be less likely.

Hmm. Okay, I guess that mostly makes sense ;) This whole gene thing just raises all kinds of questions. I think when the show started I kind of unconsciously expected them to come across more remnants of Ancient technology, and people who could use them.

Maybe I'm just thinking about this too much...

Maybe there are others out there (that aren't actually Ancients), they just haven't met them yet.
