Our financial institutions need more capital.

Barack Obama wants to raise taxes on the people and businesses who invest that capital.

Can someone explain to me why this is a good idea?

I know you wanted some sort of intellectual response, but you're not likely to get that out of me tonight. All I can say is: FairTax, FairTax, FairTax.

I think it's ridiculous that our tax structure has sent most of our industry scurrying to find someplace else that makes it more profitable to operate out of. Not because they're greedy, evil industrialists, but because they want to be profitable -- the aim of every business out there. There's a reason that the major petroleum engineering firms are building their rigs out of Singapore and China: it's frakking cheaper! And there's a reason cruise ships are all of Norwegian or some other foreign registry -- between the Coast Guard regs and the costs, it's just not profitable.

And then taxing the individual... I think the oft repeated statistic is that the top 50% of tax payers pay 90% of all the taxes. BO and the MoveOn.org libs want people to believe that they're going to lessen the tax burden on the poor, and instead, take it all from the rich. Well, they already are taking it from the rich; they're also taking it from people who aren't rich. The "poor" the libs seem to want to help have already been relieved of most of their tax burden. So, when they up the tax rate, they're not just pulling a Robin Hood. They're also pulling a Miss Daisy, two Jethros, and a Leon Sphinx. Without the Ella Fitzgerald. Those of us barely in the middle class bracket get [censored] raked over the coals...because we're apparently part of the evil rich and aren't paying our share. I sooo missed that memo, because I saw the checks we've been writing to Uncle Sam. ::gags::

What boggles me is the fact that, this Congress, controlled by the Democratic party, dealing with a lame duck president, is has the lowest approval ratings, like, evar. Yet, when it comes time to elect new representatives or even a new President, the trend seems to be leaning again toward Democrats. This is a serious WTF! I understand that people want hope for the future and a change for the better, but unless someone gets really frakking specific about that hope and change, how in the hell can BO be all that different from the current administration?

Answer: he's not. But that's a wholly different can of worms.

In short: It's not a good idea. But the Dems are playing up class warfare again. And too many of the American people are drinking the Kool-Aid instead of doing their homework. God help us.
