Oh, I just loved this! I should be writing instead of reading, but I couldn't help myself, and I'm so glad. I love this history you've built for Teyla and her people. I'm glad you gave a name and background to that poor guy who bought it in the pilot. I always kind of wondered what he was to Teyla. I probably need not say that I loved the dream she had about Shep, and how she needed to protect him. That kinda makes me squee. I am curious, though, whatever happened to Coll. Was there something different about him, or was he just Wraith food like everyone else?

First off, thanks!

The guy in Rising - he's credited as Toran, although I don't recall them ever giving him a name on screen - always interested me because he had this possessive feeling when it came to Teyla. Standing up with the knife during the first meeting... giving Sheppard that challenging look... it piqued my interest. He was originally going to be just another Athosian guy, but then he evolved ;)

The dream bit -- yeah, I like it too ;) The idea that she had to protect him... well, I basically wanted to go contrary to the Big Strong Male Leader taking care of his team. I mean, he does take care of them, but they take care of him too. I think Teyla needed a better reason for leaving her people than simply The Fight Against the Wraith, and the shipper in me liked the idea that it would have been a more personal decision.

As for what happened to Coll... actually, I don't know. Was the story just a story... was the story about Shep and not Coll... I guess I kind of left that all open for interpretation. Originally I intended to make a stronger connection between Coll's death and the fact that the Athosians and Earth team met and banded together, but, well, you start writing a story of this length and things don't always come out the same way ;)

Eek. Sorry for rambling. It's late and I'm obviously in a chatty mood. Thanks again for the fb :)

Well, I love the idea that they think the prophecy is about Coll because he's different, but that it's really about John. But still ... there's just something about Coll that I like, so I want to think that the Wraith left Haven because of him or something. I don't know. That does remind me that I forgot to mention how much I loved Teyla facing down a Wraith solo even though she knew she couldn't beat him. That is so Teyla.

You really don't need me to tell you how good this story is. It's so *good* to have you writing again. I can see a real maturity to your writing now. You have taken a character, who is often times portrayed as being one-dimensional, and given her a depth and history that fits with the glimpses of her that we've been give on the show and turns her into a full-realized, multi-dimensional person.

I have only read a handful of SGA fanfics, but I think it would take a bucketload to exceed this one in quality, and by bucket, I mean the really BIG bucket loader they use in construction.

I felt it ran true to Teyla through the whole piece.

It's very rarely, if ever, that I read Teylafic, but for some reason I read this, and loved it. I think it was the fact that you made Teyla a real person rather the token alien that I usually see her as on the show. I loved how you wove lots of little details that we've seen on the show into your story and the motivation that you gave Teyla for joining Elizabeth and John and 'abandoning' her people.
