Very ignorant. And very angry. Ironic that he -- I agree that it seems like a he -- accuses Christians of being angry, and yet he's the one lashing out in such a negative tone. Given that this person has their own "fundamentalist background," I'd say they had some sort of negative interaction with the fundamentalists in said background, and it left a nasty residue behind.
The fact is that more and more people like this keep finding their way to their own bully pulpits, and beating Christians about the head. They assume that, because we all believe in something we can't see, because we believe in some Higher Order to the universe, we aren't capable of rational, reasonable thought. We are... but we also have a moral compass by which to weigh our rational, reasonable decisions. Without that higher belief, we have no basis, no grounding, by which to judge our actions.
Interestingly, I just heard something similar in Jerry Doyle's audio book, Have You Seen My Country Lately? He was talking about, after he came out in Hollywood as a Republican, it was almost impossible to find more jobs. Discussions with others revealed that the liberal bias leads people to think that people who lean Right, don't have the emotional capacity to write great drama, or to portray said emotion on screen.
It's a really interesting bias that we've seen repeated again and again, even on the national stage. It's a bit of a backhanded insult, really: If we don't have the emotional capacity to act, then that must mean we're cold, logical creatures. And yet, at the same time, they accuse us of being stupid Bible-thumpers, clinging to our bitterness and our guns. Which is it? Because, clearly, we can't be both.
Unless, of course, you're Karl Rove. He's just a magnificent bastard. ;)
