I read 77 books this year, 45 of them I read for the first time and the others were re-reads of past favorites.

As I was formatting the list, a couple of names jumped out to me: Brandon Sanderson, Jane Austen, and Orson Scott Card. Brandon Sanderson's a new author for me -- I found one of his books recommended while browsing the bookstore out in the Concord mall -- it was actually Mistborn 2, but Mistborn 1 was sold out, so I got Elantis instead. And while I have issues with some parts of Mistborn, I absolutely love Elantris. His YA series is also very cute, and I bought his new novel in hardcover, which should tell you something right there. Definitely my favorite new author of 2009.

Jane Austen is noteable because I finished reading all of her novels this year... almost. Try as I might, I just can't get through Emma. But I adore Persuasion and Northanger Abbey.

Orson Scott Card is always a mixed bag for me. His writing is almost always amazing, but it seems to rewire my brain and make it hard for me to write. It's strange. I have a couple more of his in my queue, both from the Enderverse and his Homecoming series. I'll get around to them eventually.

Books I'll definitely read again and would recc to others:
Persuasion by Jane Austen
Northanger Abbey by Jane Austen
The Graveyard Book by Neil Gaiman
Elantris by Brandon Sanderson
Mistborn: The Final Empire by Brandon Sanderson
Mistborn: The Well of Ascension by Brandon Sanderson
Mistborn: The Hero of Ages by Brandon Sanderson
Warbreaker by Brandon Sanderson
Zel by Donna Jo Napoli
Frederick Wentworth, Captain: None But You by Susan Kaye
Frederick Wentworth, Captain: For You Alone by Susan Kaye
Heroes at Risk by Moira J. Moore
Alcatraz and the Evil Librarians by Brandon Sanderson
The Giver by Lois Lowry
Alcatraz versus the Scrivener's Bones by Brandon Sanderson
The Wizard Hunters by Martha Wells
Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman
Nefertiti by Michelle Moran
The Ships of Air by Martha Wells

Books I'm fairly apathetic about:
Hart's Hope by Orson Scott Card
Inkheart by Cornelia Funke
Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett
The Color of Magic by Terry Pratchett
Plot and Structure by James Scott Bell
Mr. Darcy Presents His Bride by Helen Halstead
Flatland: A Romance of Many Dimensions by Edwin A. Abbott
The Light Fantastic by Terry Pratchett
The Memory of Earth by Orson Scott Card
Relentless by Dean Koontz
The Call of Earth by Orson Scott Card
The Ships of Earth by Orson Scott Card
Shadow of the Hegemon by Orson Scott Card
Shadow Puppets by Orson Scott Card
Shadow of the Giant by Orson Scott Card
Mansfield Park by Jane Austen
Jane Austen for Dummies
Frankenstein: Dead and Alive by Dean Koontz
How to Live on Mars by Robert Zubrin
Good-Bye, Pink Pig by CS Adler
Blood! Said the Cat by Louise Munro Foley
Breathless by Dean Koontz

Books that sucked or were disappointing:
The Way of Shadows by Brent Weeks
Santa Olivia by Jacqueline Carey
Naamah's Kiss by Jacqueline Carey
The Book of Joby by Mark J. Ferrari
