Or, you could get some real funky looking contact paper (the kind you put down for shelf lining), cut those into strips, and decorate the composition books with those strips (from different designs). You can some from the 99 cent stores.
Or use the Sunday comic strip panels from the newspapers...they're bright and colorful. Snag some from your neighbors...or have the kids bring them in to school from home!
