I've been neglecting, among other things, LJ-posting. Time for an update, I guess.

Mom, Dad, my aunt, uncle and cousin Shelby are all in Washington, D.C. This leaves my brother and me here at home minding our combined five cats and two dogs, and working, and trying to coordinate chores.

Work's been okay, although tonight sucked because my shift was 2-1030 and today was Hormone Day Numero Uno, the very worst of all the Hormone days. I skipped out about 15 minutes early... if you can call it skipping out, since I finished all my work and everything. The customers were no stupider than usual, which I guess pretty much means it was a good day.

Speaking of skipping, I skipped class last week, which means I really have to go tomorrow. Aside from class at 7 there is a 3pm meeting for people who are planning on student teaching next semester. This includes me. I don't know what they're going to tell me that I don't already know, and in fact I don't particularly want to dwell on it.

I've started working on my McKay/Weir ficathon entry and made about three pages before getting stuck, possibly because I have no real plot. I may have to go back and rework what I want to do with it.

I have to admit that my writing has been neglected, partially because I've been knee-deep in Sharon Shinn's Samaria books (Archangel, Jovah's Angel and The Alleluia Files are the main trilogy; Angelica and Angel-Seeker are sort of standalones within the wider scope of the series). They are really excellent books... Shinn has taken a somewhat "done" scifi concept: spoiler ) and gives it a great fantasy/romance spin. The characters are well-done and fairly multidimensional, and most of the time you like them although some of the time you don't. My only critique is that there's too much angst and not enough RST/payoff, and (okay, I guess I have two critiques) quite a bit of the angst between all the various couples in the books seem to fall into the same pattern: we can't be together/fall in love because we're too different! I guess, though, that that's sort of part of the reality of relationships. I wouldn't know.

Anyway, I've just started Angel-Seeker, the last of the bunch, which makes me sad. She better continue writing in this series, goshdarnit!

OK. Quarter to eleven... guess I should find something for dinner.
