I just realized that I'm probably going to need a Brit beta for this monstrosity. Not for the whole thing, necessarily, because I've managed to keep the main action all in the US this time (yeah, I'm an insulated, xenophobic American; deal with it), but I do have a British character who becomes important in the back half of the story. And I don't want to unwittingly make her sound American, but I don't want to go the other way and drop in an excessive number of bloodys and brilliants and blimeys and whatnot. Not to mention I don't want to have her call things names that are not what she would call them. You know, pick-ups being lorries, etc.

Just about 1,000 words written today. Not bad, considering that some prime writing time - noon to sixish - was taken up at the cousin's for Thanksgiving. And then I got home and wasn't really in the mood. And now that I'm in the mood I have a bit of a headache and am tired. Also, this Clementine I just peeled is dry, blech. *chucks it*

If I really push it, I might be able to finish - or get really close to finishing - before I have to go back to work on Monday. Or I can pace myself. It's nice to have a little bit of freedom.

I've also handwritten the dialog for three scenes that haven't happened yet. It's something I do if the characters involved are speaking to me especially clearly, and it lets me focus on exposition/narration later, without having to worry about keeping up the flow of the conversation. The dialog itself is probably at least another thousand words, so should something go horribly, horribly wrong at the end, at least I would have that to fall back on as a little buffer.

No big story revelations today, although I finally accepted that I'm just not going to be able to have a big honkin' reveal with this story the way I did with WBP. In that case the big reveal wasn't absolutely necessary - ( WBP sorta-spoiler ) - but it worked for the story and made writing the foreshadowing fun.

In this case, it could work for the story, but it would feel too strained and would require that I keep things too general, which takes away some of the emotional impact of the eventual reveal. Plus I already have multiple storylines going on, both in the present and at various points in the past and future, and I'm worried enough about that getting confusing for the reader. I don't need to frustrate them even more by being pointlessly vague. That said, I'm not going to announce it with a big neon sign, either.

In non-writing news, I had to give Lou the kitteh a bath in the sink after he was not careful of where he stepped in the litter box. Thankfully, his big brother, Hermie the Maine Coon tabby, is raising him to not be afraid of water, so I was able to soap up Lou's feet - yes I own cat shampoo - and clean off the ick with a minimum of struggling. He's now curled up in my lap, giving himself a bath and purring like a beast. I think I am forgiven.

Good news everybody! Except for my water company...

I've been able to plot out the end of my NaNo fic (without resorting to another shower). And if it doesn't end up being at least close to 100K, I'll be very surprised. Yeeesh.

It will probably undergo some tweaks, but the broad strokes have been figured out, at least, and I can go from there. Also, I kind of gave myself some feels writing it. Outline feels! Who would have thunk?

Now if only behindthename.com would stop being so stupid...

2000+ words written today, including a, ahem, shower scene that I had decided not to write but that just sort of happened after reading bob5fic & workerbee73 fic.

Erm.

Good thing I have a week off.

ETA: Okay, none of that loser talk. I'm going to drink coffee and I'm going to sit here and reread the whole damn thing and then I'm going to ADD TO IT.

Anybody having a brainstorm?

After a long work day and an interminable work meeting (where there were only 3 of us representing our school, so I couldn't even hide out in the back), I don't think I can string two sentences together, much less hit the 12,500 word goal I set for myself. I managed about 350 words at work (shh don't tell anyone) but that was it. Thankfully I still have a little dialog I handwrote the other night... if nothing else I can type that up and count it. But first... going to wind down with a book and maybe something to munch on.

I know the last thing I should be complaining about during NaNo is word count, but cripes, this scene is getting ridiculous. It's on its way of making up about a third of what I've written so far, and I've always kind of felt that a scene should be no more than 2,000 words or so, to keep things moving.

3,200+ words on this one, and I still have a page of handwritten dialog and oodles of angst to get through.

Oh well. I guess I can always cut it down in December.
