I bet Barry kinda feels like an idiot right now.

So this whole Patrick Gates thing? Gates-gate? Man has it gotten out of hand.

Now the idiot is at the WH daily briefing making a non-apology. Translation: "When I said they acted stupidly, I wasn't saying that the officers were stupid. And when I compared this to racial profiling, I wasn't implying that there was racial profiling in this case. Obviously the fact that so many people were offended by what I said is an indication that there's still 'troubling' racial tension in this country. What I really don't like is that you've all been focusing on what I said and not on my interminable health care press conference. "

His actual words: "I could have calibrated my words better... This is a teachable moment." WTF?

Oh man. HotAir should have something good on this later.

(I need a Obama with his head stuck in a bucket icon.)

ETA: Aha, here we go! HotAir: Obama: The Gates clusterfark is a “teachable moment” or something

Also, my brother made a great Obama w/bucket pic that I will shortly be iconing for my 'Obama is a moron' posts, specifically the ones relating to health care.

He did have a point with this, though.

And the media is being fucking dumb for concentrating on that one remark instead of everything else he said in his health care; I'm glad he gave them a little smack down and told them to settle down. The Daily Show did an awesome segment on this last night.

Gee, did the awesome segment have anything to do with backing up Barry?

Here's the thing.

1) Reports are floating around that Rahm planted the question
2) Even if it wasn't a plant, Obama had to know it was coming. His answer was not off the cuff. It was planned.
3) He did not know all the details. When you don't know what you're talking about, you SHUT UP.
4) He's biased in the matter because Gates is a pal.
5) He effectively called the police stupid, then tried to act like he didn't.
6) The arresting officer is probably the least racist cop in the state, and his record proves it. The other officers at the scene were Hispanic and black, but no one picks on them. White people are 'safe' to accuse of racism.
7) If there is still troubling racism in this country, maybe it's because the flipping POTUS is accusing police of it in a NATL PRESS CONFERENCE WITHOUT KNOWING THE FACTS.

I think the press is grabbing onto this because, well, Barry put his foot in it. Of course, if I were him I would be thanking God that people are focused on this and not how horrible his presser was.

Surprisingly, TDS calls everyone out on their bullshit, not just Republicans. The reason is was awesome because Jon Stewart highlighted exactly what was wrong with Obama's healthcare conference and called him out for making a statement on something he didn't have all the details on. You can watch it here (http://www.thedailyshow.com/watch/thu-july-23-2009/white-house-m-d-) and see for yourself. The Obama conference starts about 4 minutes in, after the usual poking fun at all the news stations for being idiots.

Do you have a source for this?

He never accused the police of racism; he said the police's actions were "stupid." I agree he probably shouldn't have commented on it if he didn't know all the facts, and he made a clarifying statement.

I know you're a fan of Stewart, but the fact is that he's pretty liberal. I've seen him poke fun of libs, but it's the exception rather than the rule.

Do you have a source for this?

Nothing beyond the general suspicion because Rahm has done it before. That's why I followed up with #2 ;)

He never accused the police of racism; he said the police's actions were "stupid."

Read the transcript. Point number three was that police racially profile. Why would he bring that up if it did not apply in this case? Of course, we all know that the Gates case had nothing to do with racial profiling... the cops got a call about a possible burglary at a house that they had already gotten such a call about.

His clarifying statement was also pretty lame. It amounted to "there are two sides to every story". Well dur. The fact is that he shouldn't have commented on it IN THE FIRST PLACE.
