I got it for half off ($20, IIRC) because they had a special deal for people who won NaNo. I'm not sure if I could have brought myself to pay $40 for ANY software, but at the reduced price it's definitely been worth it.
Sounds handy for organisational purposes at the least. I was available with a student discount for me last year, but I invested in a references programme instead. I usually just use paper and ink for notes and then Word to type up, but Scrivener was tempting. And now I'm always tempted to do NaNo again if that's in the proze bucket lol, but at the moment I'm thinking of having a personal fic finishing month instead.
It took me a couple goes to warm up to it, but now I'm in love. I've never been much of an outliner because I didn't know how to do it in a way that worked for me, but Scrivener just makes it so EASY. I think I was successful with NaNo last year because I was able to plot out the direction of the story ahead of time. And it was crucial for WBP, keeping track of word count (I'm weird about keeping word counts fairly similiar between chapters) and the rotation of POV and what I had edited and what my beta had seen and so on and so forth. And I'm probably not even using it to the extent that I could be using it.
Which is totally kosher. I can outline all I want. *looks defensive*
Ha ha ha, you are so virtuous. I am going on vacation next week and I am going to be TOTALLY writing nano during that time. No regrets. I already went through the 'outlining doesn't count, writing in long hand doesn't count' and now I'm like, 'just fucking work on nano on vaca, you know you want to.'
