It is worth pointing out that he has maintained that he is innocent, one of the UN observers at the trial, Dr Hans Köchl, called it a "spectacular miscarriage of justice." Sir Thomas Dalyell who was a Scottish member of parliament for 43 years and father of the house has called it a catastrophic miscarriage of justice and calls Megrahi a scapegoat. Many Scottish legal experts believe he is innocent and reputable newspapers from around the world have written stories questioning the evidence and verdict.
It seems there is a fairly large chance this guy is innocent, and since he only has 12 weeks to live, why not let him out now. If we later discover he is innocent and spent years in prison for no reason, at the very least we let him die with his family. And if it turns out he is guilty, why not show him the compassion he didn’t show his victims? We should strive to be better than terrorists, not equals. The end result of “an eye for an eye” is just a whole lot of blind people.
