Thought of the day (whilst paying bills, addressing envelopes, and realizing we're out of stamps):

Do you think USPS employees appreciate when someone takes the time to address something neatly and legibly, or do they hate us all equally?

Personally, if someone addressed a letter in purple crayon, I would squint and damn that person to the depths of Hell and hope that their letter did not reach its destination. Unless it was some little kid's letter to Santa or Jesus or something. But if you think about it, most people have completely horrible handwriting. God knows I do. But I really do try when I'm sending something by mail. Which is about three times a year, thanks to the advent of online bill paying. (I'm in the process of closing an account for a credit card company which charges $9 to make an online payment. WTF, right? Now this card also has a super good APR so I've been putting up with it, but recently I just got so fed up at having to write checks and mail things that I said screw it, so HA take that stupid company.)

That reminds me. We're coming up on Christmas, which is one of the three times of year where I actually patronize the post office. Which I hate doing. Grr. Will you all think me a totally cheap putz if I do email cards this year? They'll be really NICE email cards.

Apparently the French don't like the fact that iTunes can only be used with Apple products, namely the iPod.
France is pushing through a law that would force Apple Computer Inc to open its iTunes online music store and enable consumers to download songs onto devices other than the computer maker's popular iPod player.

Under a draft law expected to be voted in parliament on Thursday, consumers would be able to legally use software that converts digital content into any format.

It would no longer be illegal to crack digital rights management -- the codes that protect music, films and other content -- if it is to enable to the conversion from one format to another, said Christian Vanneste, Rapporteur, a senior parliamentarian who helps guide law in France.

"It will force some proprietary systems to be opened up ... You have to be able to download content and play it on any device," Vanneste told Reuters in a telephone interview on Monday.

Now, I can understand not wanting to have to get an iPod in order to listen to mp3s downloaded from the web. I've been toying with the idea of getting an mp3 player at some stage, just for portability reasons; I've gotten so used to having all of my music files on the computer with me that I feel bogged down with something as cumbersome and 20th-century as a CD player. But I wouldn't get an iPod because I simply have never met a piece of Apple hardware that I liked.

However, iTunes is not the only place on the web to download music legally. Personally I find Napster's service to be much preferred because you pay a flat fee rather than paying per song. As Lee over at RT points out:
This is nothing more than the French government seeing an American company selling an American device to French consumers, and being pissed off that a French company isn’t profiting from it, so they’ll use the power of the state to skew the market in their favor.

Yup. Sounds French.

Lt. Cadman was on Bones tonight, and she looked so pretty! Not to say that she doesn't look nice on SGA, but man, if Carson had seen her here... hubba hubba.

So I'm procrastinating writing (but it's okay, I'm on page 31!) and went over to check out, because I know a lot of people who have accounts there and it's been in the news lately.

Wow, I expected a lot more. Really, it's a crappy site/program/whatever. Like JL for dummies. Yech.

So it's Saturday. I'm still sick, and now mom is too. Right now it seems to be mostly in my upper sinuses, lingering a bit in the ears and throat. The good news is that the fever spikes have stopped. As things stand now, the plan is to go into work on Monday but get a doctor's appointment for afterwards. Cause I'm thinking I'm going to need antibiotics to really kick this thing good.

My goals today are to get some betaed fic re-emailed, work a bit on my novella (yes, I've come to terms with what the Big Honkin' SGA Fic really is), and get a couple of homework assignments done.

Exhausted just thinking about it.
